Today it dawned on me that no matter how much I pretend otherwise the summer is rapidly disappearing. Even though I move in this Wednesday none of my bags are packed and I still haven’t bought a proper pair of shower shoes. However, none of this matters if I don’t purchase the requisite over the counter medication and first-aid supplies. That’s right, when it comes down to it Midol and Theraflu trump shower caddies and storage totes. However, rather than moseying on over to the local CVS to stock up on Tums and Pepto Bismol I have decided to pack a few homemade remedies. With the guidance of my grandmum, here is a list of a few quick herbal fixes to common health issues:
To kick that pesky cold’s arse make some HERBAL TEA (KASHAYA)!
What you need:
- 1 teaspoon of Cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon of Ginger powder
- 4 teaspoons of Black pepper
- ½ teaspoon of Turmeric Powder
- 3 or 4 Cloves
- 2 teaspoons of Brown Sugar (optional and add for taste)
- 3 or 4 teaspoons of Coriander powder
- 2 cups of water
What to do with all of it:
- Put all of the materials in 2 cups of water. Boil water till half a cup of water has evaporated.
- Strain water.
- Add milk for taste.
- Repeat as necessary J
When you’re gassy and want to reduce your carbon footprint make some CORIANDER COFFEE:
What you need:
- 4 teaspoons of Coriander Powder
- ½ teaspoon of Ginger powder
- 2 cups of water
What to do with all of it:
- Put everything into two cups of water and boil.
- Strain water.
- Repeat as necessary J
When your gastrointestinal tract is not cooperating (i.e. indigestion/cramps) make some OM TEA:
What you need:
- Two teaspoons of Om seeds
- Two cups of water
What do with all of it:
- Smash up the seeds to form a powder.
- Add water and boil.
- Strain water.
- Repeat as necessary J
Hope this helps and let me know what you guys think of these herbal remedies! Also let me know if you have any personal faves that I have forgotten!
