With the Filmfare Awards wrapping up last week, Bollywood completes their award season. There were many expected wins, as well as many surprises. Here is a quick roundup of who scored and who fell short. Also, click here to see how our predictions compared to the real thing.
As expected, Vidya Balan won Best Actress for her film “Kahaani” in almost every award show, and Ranbir Kapoor won Best Actor for “Barfi!.” These two have been on a winning spree for the past couple years. It was good to see Gauri Shinde win many awards for Best Director for her film, “English Vinglish.” It’s not common to see a woman director win big at these awards ceremonies. Sujoy Ghosh also won a couple awards for Best Director for “Kahaani.” Without a question, “Barfi!” swept away all wins for Best Movie.
One movie that unexpectedly triumphed this year was “Vicky Donor.” Ayushman Khurrana brought home every award for Best Debut – Male. It also won in many other categories such as Best Music, Best Song, Best Debut – Female and Best Story to name a few.
Films like “Jab Tak Hai Jaan,” “Talaash” and “Heroine” fell short at the awards this year, which was unexpected considering the strong star cast. This year seemed to be the year of unconventional films, which was refreshing to see.
It was a great awards season this year in Bollywood and a nice change to see a lot of deserving nominees to take away the awards. What were your favorite films and performances of the year?
