Poonam and Priyanka Shah are the most badass twins you’ve ever met. Their Bharatnatyam infused choreography to the nostalgically popular song from the 1999 Bollywood movie, “Taal” is worth watching on repeat. And then, once more.
Despite still looking like they are no more than 16 years old themselves, the sisters are actually graduates of the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign in Champaign, Illinois. They both trained in Bharatnatyam for 10 years and use these skill to choreograph Bollywood songs for their YouTube channel. Poonam and Priyanka have done many similar dances for the various other competitions they have participated in. They are passionate about what they do and this dance to the song “Ramta Jogi” makes it pretty obvious.
Poonam and Priyanka plan to eventually move to Los Angeles, California where they can further focus on their passion for dance. They will continue to make YouTube videos as well and keep giving us a taste of the new and different styles that they hope to eventually learn to fusion with Bharatnatyam. We can not wait to see what amazing things these two come up with and with them the best of luck in their adventures!
“Taal” was such a hit Bollywood film of the 90’s; one that many of us grew up listening to the music of. Aishwarya Rai’s dance sequences were worth watching on repeat and trying our best to mimic. The movie has definitely become a cult classic and it’s truly refreshing to know that the music of “Taal” has aged so gracefully in the last 16 years (yes, you read that correct, 16). We loved that Poonam and Priyanka took the original song without remixing and gave it such a new twist.
