Vancouver Fashion Week recently kicked off their 13th year on September 15, and concluded on September 21. This year’s show is the largest yet, featuring 70 designers, and representing more than 25 countries.
Jamal Abdourahman, the event producer and founder, has brought Vancouver Fashion Week to new heights each year. His goal is to, “provide a diverse international team, dream big and provide an accessible platform for which emerging talent can gain international exposure to promote and sell their product.”
The range of dynamic and diverse talent expressed through fashion’s artistic medium is not only breathtaking, but inspiring.

Àtiz Founder and Designer, Swati Padmaraj, is originally from Mumbai. She achieved two Master degrees in inorganic chemistry and business, but fashion was always her lifelong passion. Àtiz creates sophisticated women’s wear for those seeking to encounter classic style in beautiful new ways. Eastern tradition and Western innovation merge in the elegance of a single style that is the vision of founder and designer Swati Padmaraj. Striking textiles of her Indian homeland, combined with classic silhouettes of Western daywear, create stunning and modern designs for the international woman who is ready to travel the world.
The Àtiz Spring/Summer 2015 collection will be ready just in time for Vancouver Fashion week this fall. It features 17 pieces, including tailored peplum jackets, dress shirts to be paired with sheer flare bottom palazzo pants and flattering pencil skirts. Highlights include the trench gown, a stunning jumpsuit with sheer panels and a signature tunic dress.

Taranjit K Cheema
Taranjit (Taran) Cheema is a Canadianborn designer who has a strong eye for colors and graphics. She explores mix media and always strives to create unique and inspirational pieces. In addition to fashion, she also enjoys exploring other passions such as photography and fine arts. Originally, she pursued her love for fine arts, which naturally progressed into an interest in fashion design. In 2009, she got accepted into Parsons The New School for Design in New York City.
Taran Cheema graduated from Parsons with a Bachelor in Fine Arts. In May 2013, she exhibited her thesis collection at the Parsons 560 Exhibition and the Parsons Benefit Gala.Within her graduating class in the fashion program, she was recognized as being among the students who received a high score on her thesis collection.
Taran Cheema had the opportunity to showcase her ‘Strokes’ thesis collection with Vancouver Fashion Week in September 2013. Her designs have been featured in The Province Newspaper, The Link Newspaper and Wove Magazine. Currently, Taran resides in Vancouver, BC where she is launching her new collection and working on creative collaborations with many different local artists!
Shravan Kumar
Shravan Kumar Ramaswamy’s vision for fashion according to his profile is, “that Indian-ness is not about contrived concoction of the diverse, rather it’s an effortless understand of the divergent.”
With over 18 years of fashion experience, Ramaswamy creates eco-friendly fabrics and uses unconventional designs. His inspirations are from Indian ethnic wear. His mantra is, “fashion is my religion.” Ramaswamy’s mission is to create bio-degradable products, while empowering poor families through employment. The Shravan Kumar brand makes the commitment of, “cutting edge technology through years of unremitting efforts in research, luxury class, wear-ability and comfort.
Ramaswamy’s showstopper model this year is none other than, Simran Kaur Mundi, who was crowned Miss India Universe 2008.
