Nisha Srinivasa, a Southern California-born daughter of two immigrant parents from India, is currently a special education teacher at a charter school in East Oakland, California. Throughout her time at her alma mater, UC Berkeley, where she studied French sociology with an emphasis on colonial history and cultural linguistics, she developed a passion for and commitment to human rights, education and social justice. She always seeks to evaluate and understand people and organizations through an equity-based lens. Partnering with multiple NGOs, including but not limited to, the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies at UC Hastings, the Human Rights Center at UC Berkeley and Amnesty International, she has worked on multiple human rights and education based campaigns. She has found a special passion for teaching and loves working with and advocating for her brilliant students and partnering with their families. In her free time, Nisha is a competitive, performance-based dancer, a synesthete who loves to travel and a massive dog lover. Nisha absolutely loves to write and read stories about Indian womxn, especially. She is very enthusiastic about promoting Indian voices in literature and the arts, having only read fiction books by Indian female-identifying authors in 2020.
