Rene Verma, your typical Delhi girl who also happens to be a spoken word poet/rapper responds to the way hip-hop music portrays women. It is no secret that the hip hop genre needs a makeover when it comes to its lyrics and the objectification of women. Though the Indian hip-hop music artist Yo Yo Honey Singh is the main target of her poetry, Verma’s strong and powerful words apply to a large portion of the hip-hop music industry and Bollywood as well.
These are definitely words that need to be repeated louder and more often. Here’s to not standing for further unfair portrayals of women in 2015!
