6 Healthy Hair Tips That Will Last you a Lifetime — Thank us Later!

We all know that hair is prone to dryness and lack of luster come wintertime. So, with the cooler weather approaching fast, you want to have all your haircare regiments in place, right from the start! If you’re looking to find some quick and easy healthy hair tips, then you’ve come to the right spot!

Here’s sharing six of my best healthy hair tips with you — I promise they won’t break the bank!

1. Your Mom Knew Best — It’s All About The OIL!

I never wash my hair without doing an oil treatment – whether it’s a quick 5-minute massage or an overnight soak. I noticed a huge difference in both the amount of hair I have and the quality of the hair (ie. shine) when I am consistently using an oil. My favorite oils include Asna Hair Oil (amla), coconut, bhringraj, and castor. Sometimes I mix all of them like an evil hair growth scientist to create the ultimate concoction. Massaging your scalp for at least 10 to 15 minutes every day really helps stimulate growth as well. I’ve also been using a growth elixir for growth, thickness, and strength, called Shedavi. The elixir contains more than 20 essential oils from around the world. I massage a couple drops on my hairline three times a week where I feel like my hair thins out more easily than the rest of my scalp — whereas the oil treatments I use all over. UGH! I know it’s a lot of work, but I really try to keep my scalp as happy with me as possible — so should you!

2. Don’t Forget Your Vitamins And Herbal Supplements

I take so many, honestly where do I even start. I take a daily women’s vitamin, with all the essentials, that includes more than 1000g of biotin. I also take the ayurvedic supplements ashwagandha and amla in the form of one pill a day with food. My other daily vitamins include one D3 and one B12. I also drink bhringraj powder with warm water every night — or every other night! It’s hard to drink sometimes but on a scale of 1 to apple cider vinegar, it’s like a 6, if you know what I mean.

3. Set A High Daily Protein Goal And Stick To It!

Being vegan, this has been my biggest challenge. Eating enough protein is important for hair growth because hair follicles are made of mostly protein. I have a protein smoothie every morning that includes 25 grams of vegan protein via brown rice. I also make sure to have a ton of high-protein snacks including a protein bar with 20 grams of protein. My goal every day is to hit 50 grams but it’s different for each person.

4. Silk Pillowcases Are Worth The Investment

For the longest time, I didn’t want to get a silk pillowcase because I thought, how much could it really help? The silk pillowcases, as opposed to cotton cases, are a lot gentler on your scalp and skin. Also, for purely aesthetic reasons, a silk pillowcase really helps keep your styled hair intact. When I’m using a silk pillowcase, my curls will stay for days and my hair doesn’t become frizzy. Also, when my hair is just in natural waves, sleeping in a braid really helps reduce the hairs exposed to friction while I sleep!

5. Be AS Gentle As You Can Be!

Never yank your hair with a brush! Whether it’s wet or dry, patiently comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb, starting from the bottom and working your way up. Avoid using a comb while your hair is wet all-together if you can. When your hair is wet, it is weak, fragile and more susceptible to breakage. Don’t rough-dry hair with a towel, and instead gently press the water out – don’t rub your hair with the towel either.

6. Let Your Hair Air Dry, Even If You’re Going To Heat Style After

Through my own experimentation, I have found that using hot tools after my hair has air-dried leaves my hair in better condition than when I blow dry and use hot tools. I don’t feel that blow-drying is a necessary step to adding any smoothness or volume to your hair, and over time, blow drying really damages it. Unless I’m in a HUGE rush, I try to always let my hair air dry. I used to feel like, I’m already putting heat on my hair so what’s the difference, but trust me, the amount of heat matters as well. Don’t forget to add some leave-in conditioner or even a couple drops of oil on the ends before letting it air dry!
