Letter to my Son and Daughter: ‘I am Proud of Many Things in my Life but Nothing Beats Being Your Mom’

This Mother’s Day, we are sharing a series of letters written by mothers for their daughters and sons as they share hopes and dreams for the next generation. Our third letter is written by Ami Desai, a California-based lifestyle blogger, who serves as an on-air beauty and lifestyle expert, and is a mommy of two beautiful children, Rian and Mia, who make quite an impression on her Instagram feed.

To my little people, Rian & Mila,

This Mother’s Day, you will celebrate me but, really, it’s a day I get to celebrate you for gifting me with the most honorable role of being your mom.

I’ve known heart-thumping, pitter patter love before, but wow — I love you both more than I have ever found a way to say to you. Instead, I’ll share the little things you do and say that has forever changed me as a person and give me life and purpose.

Rian, the way you grab my face, look me in the eye and say, “mama, you’re so beautiful,” I know you’re talking about my heart because you’ve shared it with me. I know sometimes I get frustrated that you love running your fingers through my hair and need to be right by my side pretty much every minute we’re together but I want you to know it makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Mila, the way you ask me to lay with you at bedtime and say, “mama, can you stay with me for four minutes because I’m going to be four soon,” makes my heart skip a beat. I secretly love when I hear those little feet make their way to my bedside before the sun is out and ask me to cuddle. Your infectious smile and free spirit prove you can never have too much happy in your life.

From this and so much more, I’ve realized that all you want is me, your mom. Not the Pinterest mom, not the soccer mom, not the powerful working mom, or every other mom I think I should be. So, I promise to bring my best to you always, no matter how tired I am.

I am proud of many things in my life but nothing beats being your mom. So thank you for allowing me to be the one to help guide you through this crazy little thing called life.

Love always,
Mom
