Robin Chaurasiya is an activist and the founder of Kranti, an NGO that aims to empower and give opportunities to girls who are products of the exploited sex worker industry in India. Chaurasiya, herself, suffered a less than perfect childhood while growing up in the U.S. and left home at the age of 16 to join the U.S. Air Force. She was shortly kicked out under the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy which barred openly gay individuals from military service. She campaigned against it and saw it come to an end only six months after she left service.
Kranti, which is Hindi for “revolution,” aims to empower girls from Mumbai’s red-light district and help them become agents of social change. In the short video, Chaurasiya discusses what life can be like for these girls and why even the smallest opportunities are a life boat for them.
