How to Stay on Top of Your Fitness Goals During the Holiday Season

The holiday season is finally here, folks! While it’s time for a holly jolly, good ol’ time, more often than not, November and December turn into a time of giving up on your fitness goals. Instead of waiting to start over in January, take control now and get a head start with these tips.

Work Out with Your Family

The holiday season is all about spending time with family, and what better way to do so then getting active together! Whether it’s a family walk around the neighborhood, a jog in the park, or a game of football, getting active with a group is fun, energetic, and a great way to work off that Thanksgiving dinner!

Cheat Day on Thanksgiving Day, ONLY

I want to start this one off by saying – no one should be limiting themselves the day of Thanksgiving dinner! I definitely don’t think twice as I spoon heapings of macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and turkey on my plate. That being said, a lot of people use the excuse of Thanksgiving to eat poorly all weekend, resulting in falling severely behind on goals and regressing. Think twice before cheating all four days of the weekend and try to stick to just Thanksgiving.

Set a Weekly Holiday Workout Goal

With holiday parties, Friendsgiving, and holiday outings with friends and family, it gets tricky to keep up with a routine gym schedule. In order to avoid missing the gym altogether, it’s great to set a weekly workout goal and make sure you accomplish it. For example, on any given week, I like to make sure I work out a minimum of three times. If it gets to the end of the week and you have quite a way to make on your goal, consider reevaluating or pushing back plans to make time for working out – it’s important for our self-care and self-love, too!

Hot Yoga Your Way Into the Winter Holiday

In the winter, joints get stiff and muscles get tight. A great way to find relief for this while also getting a workout is to do some yoga or hot yoga! Classes can be easy to find and accessible through gym memberships, but also are very relaxing after work. Yoga is a great way to stay active during the holiday season.

Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself

Lastly, the holiday season is all about cheer and having a great time – don’t be too hard on yourself if you are working out less and eating more than you normally do. Spend the holidays guilt free with the people you love and enjoy yourself!

Overall, the holidays are a great time to reflect on the year and spend time with family. That being said, your fitness goals don’t have to be totally forgotten. How are you going to stay active this holiday season? Tell us in the comments!
